Function

The Federal Office of Justice (Bundesamt für Justiz, BfJ) in Bonn is the central authority for international mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and the granting authority in extradition proceedings (Section 74 IRG).

Tasks

Receiving and reviewing foreign extradition requests; forwarding them to the General Public Prosecutor's Office and the Higher Regional Court; political review in agreement with the Federal Foreign Office; granting decision; coordinating the surrender.

SIS and Interpol

The BfJ coordinates deletion proceedings with the Schengen Information System. Requests for information about your own SIS alert must be directed to the BKA.
